Spend National Trails Day on a classic WRV trail project! The Young Gulch trail was a very popular destination in the Poudre River Watershed. It was closed after the High Park Fire burned through in 2012, and remained closed due to flood damage that fall and again in 2013. Much of the original trail with all its creek crossings is washed away. Now we have the opportunity to build a new trail: more fun and resilient, with less disturbance to the creek and the Cache La Poudre downstream.
We've constructed almost 5 miles of trail leaving about 1/2 mile in the middle and some more technically difficult to finish this year.
To accomplish this we'll have two different groups:
This one will be hiking or biking in Friday evening to our back country basecamp and staying closer to the work areas for the weekend. We have some gear to lend if needed.
The Front Country crews (sign up HERE
) will be based out of the trailhead and hike in about 1.5 miles to some sections that need some finishing.
WRV is very pleased to work collaboration with the USFS, Overland Mountain Bike Club, Poudre Wilderness Volunteers, Larimer County Conservation Corps, and CATS on this exciting multi-year effort.
