Using native seeds in re-vegetation efforts is essential to restoring native plant diversity. Some native species are not available commercially, are too expensive, or the available seeds are not ecologically appropriate.
Volunteers will help ensure the success of future restoration projects by hand-collecting seeds from a variety of native species, including grasses, wildflowers, and shrubs. You will work in small groups led by an experienced crew leader. All supplies will be provided by WRV and the partner agency. Work will include hiking, sitting, squatting, standing, and bending. Local botanists will be working on site and will provide identification of wildflowers and other native plants during the project.
Our collected seeds will be used in local habitat restoration projects, or may be grown out in an agricultural setting to increase them 100 or 1000 fold, vastly increasing the amount of locally-adapted seed that is available for local restoration projects.
LOCATION TO BE DETERMINED!
This project is in Boulder County. The exact location of seed collections can only be determined 2-3 days prior to each event, given the varying growth rates of the many species we collect. Local botanists visit many sites and closely follow the seed development of many species--we appreciate your patience! Once you register, you'll receive info 2-3 days prior about the location, directions and species you'll be collecting.
*If you are trained, and would like to serve as a Crew Leader or Greeter please email Erica (erica@wlrv.org) after registering.
Thank you so much for being part of WRV's 1K Circle! As such, you are invited to a lunch reception with WRV Executive Director Katherine Thompson, and members of the WRV staff, for our off-season briefing! Please join us to:
Hear some of the best stories, see some photos and learn about results from WRV's work in 2019
Meet others who are invested in land stewardship and community through WRV
Hear some exciting ideas about the future of WRV
Speak with WRV staff members
Enjoy food and drink
The lunch will be held January 24 in from 11 AM until 1 PM. You will not be asked for money, or to volunteer, at this event; it is a time to reflect on the past year.
Please reply to this message with a simple "yes" or "no" to RSVP.
