New Leadership Summit and Party

COMPLETED
Easy    ●    Evening    ●    Miniumum Age: 16 (more info)

Date(s):
WednesdayJan 25, 2017 - Number of Volunteers: 25

As a follow up to the Leadership Summits of the past couple years, we've decided to host a special evening event for newer WRV Leaders (folks who have become leaders in the last 2 or 3 years). We'd like to get to know new leaders little better and to hear about their experiences of WRV Leadership. Feedback is invaluable to what we do, but a lot of times the responses we receive under represent the voices and experiences of newer leaders and we get a lot of feedback from the "old guard" as it were.

We are pretty community oriented folks and we're proud of the strength of the community we have amongst our volunteers and want to ensure that we are inclusive of everyone; those who've been around since the beginning, and those who have found us more recently. So please come over, have some dinner with us (food and beverages will be provided) and we can share stories, swap experiences and gain insight in how we can best support and encourage newer leaders. We look forward to it!

When: Wednesday, January 25th from 5:30-8pm
Where: WRV Boulder Office (3012 Sterling Circle suite 201. Boulder, CO 80301)

Please RSVP to Morgan@wlrv.org, or call (303) 543-1411 ext. 3# for more details.

Rebecca Trafton, executive producer and host of the PBS series GardenStory (and WRV volunteer) will explore how environmental stewardship can be seen as gardening, an activity that not only heals our natural world but also can inspire and educate us. GardenStory is a series that explores how gardens can change our lives. In her presentation Rebecca will highlight this concept through an episode that focuses on the stewardship of a 34-acre preserve in the heart of a red spruce forest. She will also briefly touch on her current efforts as a volunteer with the City of Boulder's Open Space and Mountain Parks.

Rebecca is a co-founder of the Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy and a former trustee of the Shenandoah National Park Trust. She has been a professional landscape designer for more than 35 years.

After eight years of building countless rock walls, hundreds of feet of boardwalk, bridges and puncheons, we are celebrating the completion of the Brainard Lake Rec Area Gateway Trails!

The Brainard Lake Recreation area is one of the most treasured recreation areas on the front-range. Towering wilderness peaks surround, lakes, trails, and glaciers in this outdoor playground. All this beauty and adventure have led to so many people visiting the area that the USFS developed a new Brainard Gateway Trailhead. The new Gateway moves hikers, bikers, and skiers out away from the Wilderness areas while still providing exceptional recreational experiences. The Gateway Trails that have been built so far have been very successful as they are now sustainable trails and reduces the safety risks for those that previously chose to hike along the road.

We will be celebrating the volunteers, partners, and funders who made these critically important trails possible. Join us!
