Over the years many of you have asked for off-season community events. As a result, we're excited to announce our Inaugural Speaker Series! Ask and you shall receive!

Speaker Series #1: Report from the WRV Monitoring Group
Date: January 12, 2017
Time: 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Location: WRV Conference Room - Boulder
To kick off our Speaker Series we are proud to have Alan Carpenter and Laura Backus present the findings from the WRV Monitoring Group. This presentation will review:

• the crucial importance of careful project day supervision which will boost WRV ahead in carrying out 2017 projects.
You've seen some of the before and after images recently from two of these monitoring efforts, join Laura and Alan to dive deeper into what will be an engaging and enlightening presentation.

Date(s):
WednesdayJan 25, 2017 - Number of Volunteers: 25

As a follow up to the Leadership Summits of the past couple years, we've decided to host a special evening event for newer WRV Leaders (folks who have become leaders in the last 2 or 3 years). We'd like to get to know new leaders little better and to hear about their experiences of WRV Leadership. Feedback is invaluable to what we do, but a lot of times the responses we receive under represent the voices and experiences of newer leaders and we get a lot of feedback from the "old guard" as it were.

We are pretty community oriented folks and we're proud of the strength of the community we have amongst our volunteers and want to ensure that we are inclusive of everyone; those who've been around since the beginning, and those who have found us more recently. So please come over, have some dinner with us (food and beverages will be provided) and we can share stories, swap experiences and gain insight in how we can best support and encourage newer leaders. We look forward to it!

When: Wednesday, January 25th from 5:30-8pm
Where: WRV Boulder Office (3012 Sterling Circle suite 201. Boulder, CO 80301)

Please RSVP to Morgan@wlrv.org, or call (303) 543-1411 ext. 3# for more details.

Have you heard about the total solar eclipse coming this summer? Are you wondering whether you should care? Is it worth trying to get to the path of totality? What the heck is the "path of totality", anyway?

KD Leka is one of those Boulder professional solar astronomers who also happens to wear various WRV volunteer hats. At this early evening presentation she will present a talk on what/when/where this Solar Eclipse thing is, and what an eclipse watcher would expect to see from various locations -- especially eclipse watchers who are interested in and tuned in to the natural world around them (that is, WRV folks!)

Rebecca Trafton, executive producer and host of the PBS series GardenStory (and WRV volunteer) will explore how environmental stewardship can be seen as gardening, an activity that not only heals our natural world but also can inspire and educate us. GardenStory is a series that explores how gardens can change our lives. In her presentation Rebecca will highlight this concept through an episode that focuses on the stewardship of a 34-acre preserve in the heart of a red spruce forest. She will also briefly touch on her current efforts as a volunteer with the City of Boulder's Open Space and Mountain Parks.

Rebecca is a co-founder of the Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy and a former trustee of the Shenandoah National Park Trust. She has been a professional landscape designer for more than 35 years.
